Just more greenpeace BS. The industry does definately need to get more proactive though especially in the media. Why didn't I see anything on the National in relation to Suncor's new TRO operations. Substantially reducing the size of the tailings ponds should be something that CAPP and Suncor are posting everywhere. Suncor should post their video about the technology on you tube. Two can play their game. It's fantastic news for the industry and all Canadians should hear about it. Let's go on the offensive instead of being so defensive. There's a lot of good things to talk about in relation to this industry.

Thanks Campelectrician

You're refering to this innovation from Suncor:

and this video:

We're working on the proactive part in all media... and your voice is helping!

Indeed, two CAN play the game. tarsandsblow.org is calling for action.
The conversation needs our voice to cut through - as you call it - the BS.

Canada needs to get more proactive on fighting this propaganda. This is Canada's largest export, it helps pay for everything.

Canadians need to stand up for Canada and let people know the truth, the truth Greenpeace does not want people to know.

Tony here again from CAPP...

Just as this thread is receiving lots of attention, Twitter now has dozens of re-tweets calling the video “edgy and amazing.” ...Maybe so as a propaganda piece, but not for the content.

Misinformation isn't a surprise. In my daily wade through the blog-o-sphere’s uninformed muck of tar sands bashing, I’ve seen it all before. It’s just the same old lyrics packaged in a different tune.

Propaganda videos like this do elicit emotional responses (including mine!). But I believe rational-minded viewers understand that propaganda is just that: over-the-top commentary. Some find it repulsive, others find it entertaining.

Industry would never counter directly with our own over-the-top propaganda video. But then, some people would say all the industry ever creates is propaganda. That attitude will probably never change, and I’m not sure what industry can do about it.

At least social media gives everyone a voice to decide whether a video like this contributes to creating the clean energy future we need, or not. The debate needs lots of voices. Bring it!

"the tarsands need a serious ass-whuppin"

One of CAPP’s members was alerted to an early version of this video back in October. The link had been “leaked” on twitter. In the early version of the video, the closing slide displayed this text:

"The tar sands need a serious ass-whuppin"

I wonder why that was eliminated from the final version posted on TheTarsandsBlows.org? Did it not resonate with their test audiences? Perhaps it might incite violence? Hmmmmm. What do you think?
You can see the early version within this youtube clip taken on October 25, 2009:
“Propagandhi wants you to STOP THE TAR SANDS - join the campaign! Catch the live interview.”

CAPP posted this to a question on our FaceBook Page:

I believe the phrase “The Most Destructive Project on Earth”originated from a Feb 2008 report by environmentaldefence.ca.

It’s another unsubstantiated exaggeration. The total disturbed area of oil sands surface mining is 530 km2 which is less than the size of the city of Edmonton (670 km2). Yes, it’s big.
But a Calling the tar sands “The Most Destructive Project on Earth” is an over-the-top attention-getting label... Fear mongering?

No, the tar sands are bigger than England. George Monbiot says so!! George Monbiot is so smart and so sexy, he couldn't possibly be wrong. He just couldn't. George Monbiot doesn't even fly in planes (they're bad for carbon emissions), except when he flies to Toronto to badmouth the tar sands. You just can't argue with that kind of credibility.

24 Treaties?
posted by RagingRanter   Saturday, December 05, 2009 10:03 AM
Did they name the 24 treaties the tar sands are allegedly in violation of? Did they name any besides Kyoto? The nice thing about being an environmental NGO is that you don't ever have to worry about telling the truth. Nobody will ever try to verify your "facts", because anyone stupid enough to listen to you is not interested in facts.
